Monsignor Les Tomlinson

Monsignor Tomlinson was born to Edward and Alice Tomlinson on August 27, 1943 in Mildura, Victoria. He was educated at St Joseph’s College, Mildura. He entered Corpus Christi College (Werribee, Vic) on the 29th February, 1968 and completed his studies for the priesthood at St Paul’s National Seminary (Kensington, NSW). He was ordained to the priesthood at St Joseph’s Church, Red Cliffs, Victoria on the 18th August, 1972.

After serving in the parishes of Carlton, Rowville and Ormond as Parish Priest, Monsignor Tomlinson was appointed Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral on 7th January, 2003 and Vicar General of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne on the 10th April, 2003.

Mgr Tomlinson currently holds the following appointments:

Vicar General; Secretary of the Roman Catholic Trusts’ Corporation of the Diocese of Melbourne; Secretary & Moderator of the Archdiocesan Curia; Secretary of the Archdiocesan College of Consultors; Deputy Chairman of the Diocesan Finance Council; Secretary of the Archbishop’s Personnel Advisory Board; Deputy Chairman of the Diocesan Extension and Maintenance Fund; Chairman, Planning, Building & Finance Committee for Parish Capital Works; Director, Catholic Capital Grants (Vic) Pty Ltd.; Director, R C Education Supplies Pty Ltd., Chairman of the Strategic Working Group of the Archdiocese.

With the retirement of Bishop Deakin Auxiliary Bishop on 13 November 2007, Archbishop Hart has asked the Vicar General, Monsignor Les Tomlinson, to provide the care and be the reference point of the Eastern Region of the Archdiocese for the time being.  Matters or concerns that would have been previously referred to the Regional Bishop should now be directed to Monsignor Tomlinson at the Vicar General’s Office. 

 

Monsignor Tomlinson is the Vicar General of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.
