Pastoral Letters and Messages Each Christmas, life seems to touch us with wonder and peace – the cares of every other day stand still at the joy that God became one like us to give us hope. In the face of suffering, injustice, poverty and drug abuse, the coming of God in the weakness of humanity challenges us to remember the dignity of each human being and to respect his greatest gift of life to each of us. From conception to natural death we know that we are loved. As we know God’s love we seek to reach out to others and encourage them in daily living. Each of us has gifts that only we can use for others. Amid the harsh pressures of work and responsibility Christmas reminds us that God comes, stays and offers us peace.

At every Mass we pray: ‘Protect us from all anxiety, as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ.’ In these tough times I want young people to see there is a purpose to life. The bad times do pass away. There is hope. Jesus is the giver of hope. The Church says: ‘Look to Jesus. He has not abandoned us. He offers us a future.’ |
